Strawberry Shortcake recipe

I am an avid fan of the Japanese version of Strawberry Shortcake; a combination of soft fluffy sponge cake with fresh cream and sweet juicy strawberries. This cake was made for the birthday celebration of a dear friend and it is rather simple to make and assemble.

Plain bread rolls recipe

This is my first time making bread and its no easy feat to do it by hand (adding bread machine to my wish-list.) Nevertheless, it was a good workout and you feel really satisfied at the end of the day when you are greeted with this lovely buns.

Vanilla cupcakes recipe

There are days where all you crave is a plain vanilla cupcake. These cupcakes are easy to whip up and can be completed in an hour (baking and cleaning time included). I love basic recipes like this as you can always jazz the cupcakes up with frosting, chocolate chips or add in fruits like banana, apple, etc.

Japanese Cotton Cheesecake recipe

There are many kinds of cheesecakes but my personal preference veers towards light cheesecakes with just a tinge of cheese-y goodness. Japanese cotton cheesecake is one such example. It resembles a moist sponge cake without an overbearing taste of cheese. You can reach for a couple of slices without feeling "icky" (?) at the end of it.

Soba noodles recipe

With intentions to bring soba noodles for lunch, I cooked and cooled a bunch of my favourite buckwheat noodles only to realise that I had ran out of store bought dipping sauce! Sigh. What should I do with my noodles...

A quick search on google and I landed on this promising recipe by Nigella Lawson. It did not disappoint!

Basic Scones recipe: Cranberry and almond flakes

I used to think that Scones are dry, tasteless and boring hard biscuits. However, after sampling various kinds of scones, I have begun to appreciate its taste. Scones are what I like to call "structured" biscuits; they have a fixed shape but crumble finely when bitten into. I love scones with a strong buttery taste with minimal sweetness. They are highly versatile; you can add chocolate chips, dried fruit like cranberries, raisins and nuts like almond flakes. You could also enjoy your plain scones with some clotted cream or jam.
